Here we are in November, getting prepared for one of the biggest holidays of the year, Thanksgiving. Most likely, you will see quite a few of these blogs during the rest of this month about what I’m thankful for. Today, I want to talk a bit more on the 2nd half of that word “ThanksGIVING”.
We have so much to be thankful in our lives, even those of you who are struggling a bit at the moment. Just to be alive and to breathe is a blessing. We should be thankful for our lives, for most of us our health, our family, and if you don’t have any of the above, you at least have a communication device that you’re using right now to read this blog. So, even if that’s the only thing you have, it’s a lot more than those who are hungry and starving that will never have the chance to read this post. I guess what I’m trying to point out is, we all have something to be thankful for. But there are many that do not have anything to be thankful for, no parents, no school, no food, no water….you get the point. So what are we doing to help others to see something positive occur in their lives- for those who have absolutely nothing? Thanksgiving Day shouldn’t just be a time to give thanks for what we have a few moments at the table before dinner, but more importantly, it should be a time to think about those less fortunate than we are. What is better to show how thankful we are than by helping someone that doesn’t have a feast or even a family to sit with?
I’m sure that you hear this all of the time, but there are many charities out there that do amazing things. I’ve been a part of some of them for 25 years. I enjoy giving what I can, and I do NOT want any type of credit for it. That’s not why I give. I do it because my heart goes out to those less fortunate. So if you feel that “tug” on your heartstrings, it may be a message for you to do something, to give. And if you’re weary of giving away your money because you’re unsure about charities, you can ALWAYS help the homeless. They’re not very hard to find. Look up the local “Soup Kitchen” in your town to donate your $ or your time to as a volunteer! This is your chance to show your gratitude for what GOD has given you and the rewards are sweeter than any notoriety. To see someone in need SMILE is all the reward you need. Oh, it’s true, it’s damn true!!
