I absolutely love and adore my wife and kids. I made a vow to provide for them and take care of them as long as I live. In order for me to do that, for any of us to take care of our loved ones, we must look out for ourselves first.
When you are on an airplane, the flight attendant always tells you that if there is a sudden pressure loss in the in the cabin, we should always make sure that our own mask is on first before helping our children. Why? So that when the air gets thin and we are not thinking straight, we need the mask on us first so we can do a successful job at applying the masks on our children.
Isn’t that the same thing in life? We need to be at our best to take care of the ones we love. It takes a lot of time, energy and responsibility to look out for your loved ones. If you are providing for others, and you’re not doing well mentally, physically and spiritually, how will you be able to do a good job?
We all need to take care of ourselves more. Proper rest, proper diet, strong relationships with those you love, and constant prayer to your GOD are necessary to take care of yourself and your family.
So taking care of ourselves first isn’t selfish, it’s imperative. And when you do a good job of taking care of yourself, your children notice, and they will be more likely to do the same when they become the provider in the future, for “their” children.
So make sure you’re okay before you begin making sure others are okay. I promise, you will do a much better job of it.
It’s true. It’s damn true!
