Appreciating Your Mom

JackieThey always say that “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone”. We all know what that feels like.

How many of us have told their mother how much we appreciate her…how much we love her? Not enough. We take it for granted that she will always be around. So untrue.

My mother had to raise me single-handedly, my father died when I was young. She wasn’t perfect, but she did the absolute best that she could with 6 children.

My mother taught me so many things, but the #1 thing that she taught me is “to take responsibility for every action you take”.

She knew how to love, to appreciate, to give, and she was organized…always.

I’ve learned so much from her, but the one thing that I appreciate more than anything is her will to live. Not just to live, but to “LIVE”. She knows how to have fun no matter what obstacle that’s been thrown in her way. She Loves life, even with cancer eating her alive as I write this blog, she pretends like its “a walk in the park”. This woman is suffering!!! She’s having trouble getting just one breath into her lungs, but she makes it look easy. She’s a true warrior.  I asked her why she has no self pity, she answered, “I don’t have time for pity and this disease is evil. I will not allow it to affect my life”. But, the cancer “is” affecting her life. She can’t walk and can hardly eat. But she makes it look easy and I know why. She has “Peace”, she’s ready for life after death, and she’s ready for GOD in Heaven.

As I look back in my life, I’ve had so many struggles, but compared to my mom, it doesn’t even come close!!!!! So, for my mom, I’m gonna live my life the way she did…with love, compassion, forgiveness, and a will to give and help others. I only pray that I can be half the parent my mom was.

I love you Mom. GOD has a place for you, and I’m sure it’s going to be the greatest place you’ve ever known.

Until we meet again!!!

Being prepared

Kurt AnglePreparation is the key to success, if you’re not ready, your chance of success is less likely.

I’ve always made sure I was prepared for “everything”. They say practice makes perfect, maybe not perfect, but it can be pretty damned close. I trained 3 times a day for a total of 8-10 hours to prep for the Olympics. I did what I “had to” to be ready. I practiced, studied matches, learned visualization techniques, and prayed. I did it all, but not just for wrestling, I did the same academically.

Sometimes we think that something is too difficult to do. For instance, becoming a doctor. Yes, it takes time (8 years of school after high school) and lots of studying, but if you’re “into it”, it becomes a heck of a lot easier. Putting Your heart and soul into something makes anything easier. If I did the bare minimum in my life, to “get by”, I wouldn’t be where I am now.

Sometimes we think lowly about ourselves, that we’re not capable of accomplishing something, so we settle for something less. Do you think that GOD put you here to “squeak by?” Heck no. We are here for far greater reasons than we actually know, so reach deep, and go for something you truly want. Put your best effort into it and “get into it”. Your time here is short, make the most of it.

Believe, put in the effort, and achieve. It’s not easy, but it’s a lot easier when you’re prepared.

Trust Your Instincts

Celebration of winning Gold at the Olympics

Instincts can be the most important thing you have, they tell you when to decide on something important. You hear the saying “never give up”. Well, that’s great when you’re pursuing something you truly desire. Maybe even a life long dream.

I’ve always had a “never give up” attitude, it’s done incredible things for me. It’s also done some terrible things. When you need to make a decision, going with your instincts will most likely be the right decision. Sometimes we confuse greed with our instincts. That’s when we end up in a worse place than when we start.

I wanted to quit wrestling in 1994, 2 years before the Olympics. Why? Because I wasn’t the top guy in my weight class. I also had a tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers. I decided to quit wrestling, temporarily to tryout for pro football. Why? The money seemed to be good. Because there was fame in being a Steeler. But, did I have passion for it like I did in wrestling? Hell no. The tryout went okay but it wasn’t in the cards for me. So I decided to go back to my true love of wrestling and re-commit to it, and try to “figure out” why I wasn’t winning enough. The rest is history. I didn’t do it for money or fame. I did it because I loved it and I listened to my “instincts”.

Where do “instincts” come from? I Believe its GOD talking to You. There’s no other way to explain it. Be attentive to your instincts and you will be attentive to what GOD is telling You to do.

Pray on it!!! Another example I had is when I owned a food company. I wanted it to succeed so badly, so badly that I dropped an enormous amount of money into it. Enormous! My instincts kept telling me to “let it go”. “Take Your losses and move on”. I didn’t listen. I kept going and trying everything I could to make it work. I lost more money than I care to explain. The business never prospered, it didn’t come close. I thought I could keep feeding it until something would catch on. Why? For money. For a legacy that my kids and grandkids could carry on. Don’t get me wrong, starting a business is great. But having the right people and the right timing mean everything. It wasn’t in the cards for me. So when it comes to listening to your instincts, pay attention, Pray on it, and Let GOD speak to you. But, keep an open positive mind. Your instincts will take you places that you never dreamed of. That’s the way it’s supposed to be, GOD will always show you the way.

God Bless,

UK Tour

I’m heading to the UK January 29-31 for Impact Wrestling TV shows. The UK has always been my favorite tour to attend. From record crowds, to the electricity of the fans, it makes the wrestlers want to go beyond their call of duty to give the UK fans something to remember. I’ve been going to the UK for 15 years and it has never disappointed. Continue reading
